The Holy Father next explains the proper interaction between faith and reason and between philosophy and theology. O Santo Padre explica a próxima boa interação entre fé e razão e entre filosofia e teologia. Philosophy is the study of ultimate truth under the natural light of reason. Filosofia é o estudo da verdade suprema sob a luz natural da razão. Theology is the study of the Catholic faith with revelation as its first principles. Teologia é o estudo da fé católica com a revelação de seus princípios. The purpose of theology is to permit a greater understanding of the faith so that it can be grasped more firmly (n. 93). A finalidade da teologia é a de permitir uma melhor compreensão da fé de modo que ela pode ser agarrada de forma mais firme (n. 93).

Man can know that God exists by reflecting on creation. O homem pode saber que Deus existe, refletindo sobre a criação. As we read in the Book of Wisdom, “From the greatness and beauty of created things comes a corresponding perception of their Creator” ( Wis. 13: 5, cf., Rom. 1: 20, n. 19). Como lemos no Livro da Sabedoria: "A partir da grandeza e da beleza das coisas criadas, chegar ao conhecimento do seu Criador" (Sb 13:.. 5, cf, Rm 1. 20, n 19). “If human beings fail to recognize God as the creator of all, it is not because they lack the means to, but because their free will and their sinfulness place an impediment in the way” (n. 19). "Se os seres humanos não conseguem reconhecer Deus como o criador de tudo, não é porque eles não têm os meios, mas porque a sua vontade livre e pelo seu pecado um impedimento no caminho" (n. 19).

The Church received the ultimate truth about human life as a gift of love from God the Father in the revelation of Jesus Christ. A Igreja recebeu a verdade última sobre a vida humana como um dom do amor de Deus Pai, na revelação de Jesus Cristo. “God so loved the world that he sent his only Son…” (Jn. 3: 16). "Deus amou tanto o mundo que enviou seu Filho unigênito..." (Jo 3, 16). Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn. 14: 6). Cristo é o Caminho, a Verdade e a Vida (Jo 14, 6). The true meaning of life, therefore, is a person: Jesus Christ. O verdadeiro significado da vida, portanto, é uma pessoa: Jesus Cristo. The truth communicated by Christ is the absolutely valid source of the meaning of human life (n. 12). A verdade comunicada por Cristo é a fonte absolutamente válido do significado da vida humana (n. 12). The ultimate answers to man's questions about pain, suffering of the innocent, and death are found in Christ's Passion, Death and Resurrection (n. 12).
